Powell Industries is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering & Design department in the Energy & Utilities sector. In this role, you will lead mechanical design and BIM coordination for complex energy projects, ensuring high-quality, code-compliant solutions. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior engineers, and drive best practices in 3D modeling and documentation. Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical BIM modeling and coordination for energy and utilities projects, including HVAC, piping, and mechanical equipment systems.
- Develop, review, and maintain detailed 3
- D mechanical models in Revit and related BIM platforms to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project standards and codes.
- Coordinate closely with electrical, structural, civil, and controls disciplines to drive integrated design and perform clash detection and resolution using tools like Navisworks.
- Create and oversee mechanical BIM standards, templates, families, and content libraries, ensuring consistency and quality across projects.
- Prepare and coordinate construction drawings, schedules, and model-based deliverables supporting all project phases from concept through construction and as-built documentation.
- Support project managers and client-facing activities by explaining design intent, addressing technical questions, and incorporating client feedback into models and documents.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers and BIM modelers, reviewing their work and supporting their professional development.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including refining BIM workflows, evaluating new tools, and implementing best practices for digital delivery in mechanical engineering.
- Participate in site visits, field verification, and construction support activities, integrating field data and changes back into BIM models.
- Ensure that mechanical designs incorporate safety, energy efficiency, maintainability, and sustainability considerations consistent with industry and client expectations.
