General PurposeThe Area Supervisor is a member of the Store Leadership who is responsible for a specific, assigned area of the store as well as the general operations and supervision of the store when functioning as the Manager on Duty. Area Supervisors open and close the store, supervise associates, maintain a friendly, easy‑to‑shop environment, ensure proper merchandise presentation, and maintain a clean work area.
They also execute and supervise company‑wide operational processes as needed.
- Understands that safety is the number one priority and practices safe behaviours in everything they do.
- Maintains a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment for everyone, immediately correcting or reporting any unsafe conditions or practices.
- Responsible for building security, including entrance/exit control, EAS device checks, cash office security, armored carrier pick‑ups and register area.
- Removes clutter and ensures safe, clear egress to emergency exits, tests all fire alarm systems as scheduled and responds to after‑hours alarms when requested.
- Treats all customers, associates and other leaders with respect.
- Demonstrates courtesy, friendliness and professionalism at all times and recognizes associates through company recognition programs.
- Represents and supports the company brand at all times.
- Maintains a professional appearance in accordance with the company dress code and ensures all associates adhere to it.
- Keeps all areas of the store clean, well‑maintained and merchandised to standard and is responsible for daily trash removal.
- Ensures recovery, sizing and markdowns are completed to company standards through teaching, assigning tasks and following up per company best practice.
- Responsible for receiving merchandise trucks when needed, processing all merchandise with a sense of urgency and ensuring receipt of all non‑merchandise inbound deliveries.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of all stockrooms, assists with deliveries and placement on the sales floor, ensures back‑stock is secured and processed, and practices merchandising in the department including back‑stock.
- Works to reduce loss due to damage, follows monthly presentation guidelines, performs floor moves, promo signing and re‑wraps as required.
- Understands and complies with the Loss Prevention Awareness Program and maintains a strong customer‑service presence on the sales floor.
- Demonstrates integrity, safeguards confidential and cash information, and maintains the PVM system.
- Conducts “Code 50” package inspections and executes all company best practices to maximize productivity.
- Ensures associates perform to company standards at the front end and sustains pace, energy and presence.
