Position:
Scientist I
Location:
Melrose Park, IL 60160
Duration: 6+ month contract (with possibility of extension)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM 5:00 PM CST (2 hours flexibility)
Position Summary:
- Responsible for an intermediate level of expertise in analytical chemistry, chromatography methods analysis, and instrumentation, including troubleshooting.
- Independently executes protocols, verifications, and method transfers in support of senior-level personnel.
- Directs and provides guidance to Associate Scientists.
Principal Activities:
- Articulate work-related issues clearly and efficiently to management and peers.
- Perform accurate routine testing utilizing methods of analysis (HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV, ICP-MS), with emphasis on chromatography, to meet department objectives.
- Update SOPs, MOAs, and specifications through documentation as delegated by the supervisor for USP compliance.
- Provide technical support for method validation, verification, and transfer evaluations.
- Perform troubleshooting of instruments by applying problem-solving skills and utilizing literature or vendor support when necessary.
- Provide guidance to Associate Scientist personnel when needed.
- Assist in the formal training of lab personnel on topics such as GMP, safety, antineoplastic handling, and new employee training.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed in compliance with GDP and project documentation requirements.
- Manage work and time based on department priorities using sound judgment.
- Perform peer review of data to ensure compliance and accuracy.
Requirements:
- B.S. in Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent physical science.
- Typical years of related experience in the pharmaceutical industry with familiarity in GMP and FDA regulations.
- Hands-on experience and knowledge of chromatographic methods and related chromatographic data systems (Empower).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
- Some methods of development, experience and strong troubleshooting knowledge is highly desirable.
- Must be flexible with continually changing priorities and projects.
Required Skills:
- HPLC experience.
- Wet chemistry.
- Technical writing.
Preferred Skills:
- KF (Karl Fischer) water analysis.
- GC.
- Empower software.
- Antineoplastic experience.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, Biology, or equivalent.
Preferred Industry:
- Pharmaceutical or Medical Device.
