The Automation Maintenance Technician (AMT) team is part of the Customer Operations organization which leads the day‑to‑day operations of Symbotic’s robotic material‑handling system. The team drives operational excellence by partnering with onsite customers to deliver best‑in‑class quality, safety, and system performance.
What you’ll do- Perform inspections on systems associated with Automated Storage and Retrieval System (AS/RS) of automated robotic vehicles and Automated Adapters/Lifts.
- Lead continuous operation by adjusting, calibrating, repairing, replacing or modifying system components.
- Process and monitor the flow of the AS/RS, including manual inbound, automatic inbound, automatic outbound, to achieve maximum throughput and cases per hour.
- Troubleshoot automated robotic vehicle anomalies and stoppages using schematic and wiring diagrams as well as advanced test equipment.
- Perform periodic system inspections within expected durations on all equipment and thoroughly document all actions and repairs to include parts used and labor.
- Maintain quality maintenance and complete documentation via the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Communicate production‑impacting problems and suggested actions, including approximate time required for corrective and emergency maintenance to required team members.
- Perform cleanup of equipment and removal of replaced parts from work areas after repairs are completed.
- Recover automated robotic vehicles in the Symbotic Matrix select system, working in restrictive environments.
- Perform minor utility work such as machining holes, brackets; cutting steel; aligning sensors; attaching Unistrut; etc.
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, set up, and change tools on robotic arms.
- Maintain 5S policies and perform Cell Operator functions as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
- Associate degree and/or certification in electronics, automotive, automation, manufacturing, or equivalent work experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience with mechanical automation systems or equivalent educational/training.
- Ability to manage and lead advanced troubleshooting skills and follow electro‑mechanical diagrams.
- Experience with PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) knowledge and troubleshooting.
- Proficient in performing all inspection functions.
- Ability to work independently of a supervisor following procedures and manuals.
- Work involves steep stairs, high railings, and work at heights up to 45 feet.
- Exposure to temperatures ranging from 105°F to 32°F and weather conditions.
- Required PPE includes hard hat, safety vest, steel toes, eyeglasses, ear protection, and fall protection.
- Frequent lifting of items weighing up to 50 lbs and moving items up to 80 lbs, standing/walking for up to 10‑12 hours.
- Work within restrictive areas of 24 inches, including stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Must comply with all safety requirements, including Lock‑out/Tag‑out and fall protection safety protocols.
