Position: Sr. Diesel Mechanic -2348379

Introduction

WM is looking for a Sr. Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair trucks and equipment at our Melrose Parking, IL hauling site. As part of a team that serves over 20 million customers across the USA, you will ensure the safety of both employees and the community.

Pay and Benefits

Starting salary: $30.31–$45.49 per hour.

Schedule and Location

Monday–Friday, 1:30 p.m.–10:00 p.m. (Occasional Saturday).

Work site:
Repair/maintenance shop at Melrose Parking, IL hauling site.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake, and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
  • Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts.
  • Perform work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
  • Respond to emergency breakdown service calls.
  • Conduct safety checks; maintain high safety standards for employees and the community.
  • Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage and repair times.
  • Assist senior mechanics with project work.
  • Review, complete, or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate/OSHA standards.
Qualifications
  • Four (4) years of relevant work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Over 18 years old and legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Ability to perform physical requirements, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Successfully complete and pass pre‑employment drug screen and physical.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Requires frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, and climbing; constant standing, walking, and grasping; occasional sitting and balancing. Exposed to cuts, burns, chemicals, dust, noise, weather extremes, heat, and humidity in both indoor garage/shop and outdoor conditions.
