Job Summary
The Senior Custodian provides custodial services at assigned sites, ensuring an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Duties include performing a variety of special cleaning operations, overseeing the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events, and carrying out skilled and semi‑skilled cleaning, housekeeping, and general maintenance duties in assigned areas. The incumbent exercises care and caution in the use of supplies and equipment while performing custodial tasks and is classified as an Essential Services Employee who maintains business operations for UT Health Science Center and supports the physical operations and safety of the campus.

Hiring Salary: $18.00/Hourly
Responsibilities- Cleans, sanitizes, and deodorizes restrooms using established practices and procedures.
- Sweeps and vacuums carpeting and floors using manual and power equipment.
- Mops, scrubs, spot cleans, and maintains carpeting, tiles, and floors; washes and buffs floors with a floor polisher.
- Empties wastebaskets and garbage cans, and places garbage in the outside storage bin.
- Cleans interior windows using common household equipment and cleaning products.
- Cleans multilevel stairwells, elevators, docks, and tunnel areas; keeps outside area near exit and entrance clear of snow, cans, paper, etc.
- Cleans, dusts, and wipes offices, furniture, and fixtures.
- Cleans kitchen sinks and counters, lockers and benches, shower room walls, fixtures, and floors; cleans drinking fountains, partitions, and doors, and rolls off walk‑off mats.
- Uses and maintains assigned power equipment and hand tools; buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high‑pressure washers, high‑speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees.
- Reports damages and acts of vandalism.
- Performs and/or reports minor maintenance repairs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
Six (6) months of custodial or housekeeping experience.
Knowledge of aspects of custodial cleaning and/or general maintenance duties and services.
Knowledge of equipment utilized by custodial staff, e.g., vacuum cleaner and various mopping, sweeping, and stripping machines, waxer/buffer, water pick‑ups, dusting tools, etc.
Skill in reading Standard English text to follow through on written orders, read labels on cleaning products, and understand instructions on equipment, then carry out assignments safely.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and a positive and respectful attitude with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators, customers, and visitors.
Ability to stand, crawl, walk, and stoop; push, pull, lift, or lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to work indoors in fluctuating temperatures.
Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions, e.g., dirty or noisy environments.
Ability to maintain the highest quality of custodial services at a level consistent with University and department standards.
Work ScheduleMonday – Friday; shift hours may vary. This position may occasionally work weekends.
