Environmental Technician

Summary Performs custodial maintenance duties, including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors,vacuuming carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms.

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming,cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
2. Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
3. Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bagstrash for proper disposal.
4. Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
5. Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting orrecommending work orders and checking supply levels.
6. Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
7. Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
8. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based onseasonal/project requirements.
9. May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
10. May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such asreplacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
11. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Distinguishing Characteristics Position requires: a) use of power equipment to buff and restore floors and shampoocarpets; b) regular and routine dusting, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash and cleaning restrooms; and c) routine maintenance to custodial equipment.

Conditions of Employment Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.

Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort Considerable physical activity. Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, orpulling required of objects up to 50 pounds. Physical work is a primary part (more than
70%) of job.

Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, which requirefollowing basic safety precautions.

Work may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises
