The custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, safety, and orderliness of Zoo facilities by performing cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation, often using specialized cleaning equipment and chemicals, to ensure a hygienic and functional environment for occupants; they may also perform minor maintenance tasks as needed.
Responsibilities- Keep building and property in clean and orderly condition.
- Perform routine maintenance activities.
- Perform heavy cleaning duties.
- Sweep, mop, scrub, or vacuum floors.
- Gathers and empties trash.
- Scrub, sanitize, and stock restroom facilities.
- Dust furniture, walls, and equipment.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and partitions with soap and cleansers.
- Mix cleaning solutions and chemicals in containers in preparation for cleaning, according to instructions.
- Use a handheld device to scan NFC tags and complete on-screen steps.
- Be responsible for equipment, display and fixture inventory and maintenance.
- Ensure a positive guest experience by communicating with guests in a professional and courteous manner.
Minimum
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
Education and Experience:
- One year of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrates the ability to perform the responsibilities and requirements outlined above.
- Experience with cleaning equipment, including vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and cleaning solutions.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards safety rules.

Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Custodial Manager.
Work ScheduleFull-time positions are defined as approximately up to 40 hours per week. Scheduling is at the discretion of the manager and may require flexible hours including weekdays, holidays, weekends, early mornings, daytime, and evening hours to cover Zoo hours of operation and events.
This position is non-exempt under federal and state wage and hour laws.
Physical DemandsThe physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and crouching, with occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
