Safety and effectively monitor, operate and maintain facility systems and equipment, including Fire Tube Boilers, Steam Distribution and Condensate Return Systems, Packaged Water Chillers, Cooling Towers, Chilled Water and Condenser Water Systems, Clean Steam Generators, Clean Steam Distribution Systems, Heating Hot Water Systems, Domestic Water Systems, Pure Water Systems, Animal Watering and RODI Water Systems, Air Handlers and Air Distribution Systems, Exhaust Fans and Exhaust Systems, Gas Systems, Electrical Power Distribution and Emergency Power Systems, Control Air Systems, Life Safety Systems, Campus Fire Detection Systems, Building Automation Systems, Sterilizers and Freezers.

Job Responsibilities

Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure optimal facility performance. Ensure smooth operation, maintenance, and safety of a facility;
Ensure a safety focused mindset on all aspects of the position. Provide support of preventive and corrective maintenance on electronic and pneumatic facility/equipment controls and responds to abnormal conditions and emergencies. Monitor and maintain cleanliness and upkeep of common areas and facility equipment. Improve technical expertise from senior team members and supervisor. Provides recommendations, advice and oversight on installation and modification of new systems.

Assist with the training of junior personnel. Maintain currency with utility systems such as steam, heating water, chilled water, compressed gases, HVAC, tube system, domestic water heating, etc. and be able to assist in troubleshooting and maintenance. Recognize and respond properly to critical system alarms such as freezers, refrigerators, incubators, cold and environmental rooms, data center temperature alarms. Dispatch appropriate FOM personnel and notify appropriate stakeholders within FOM.

Communicate effectively in standard written and spoken English across communication platforms. Maintain proficiency with software platforms, including Metasys, tube system controls, medical gas alarms, and Simplex fire alarm monitoring. Serve as the liaison between FOM, Security Operations, and vendors. Serve as the on-site stationary steam engineer and chiller plant operator within the Central Energy Plant. Document the State-mandated Steam Boiler Monitoring Variance activities of the Roving Shift Engineers.

Maintain familiarity with the campus site, buildings, and utilities. Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution. Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training

High School diploma/ GED required. Technical School Diploma or Certification in related area preferred.

Minimum Experience

2+ years of experience as a Shift Engineer or Boiler Operator, Maintenance Mechanic, A/C Refrigeration Mechanic or Maintenance Engineer in a Hospital or related environment or an Operator in a facility with rigorous conduct of operations requirements. Must have knowledge of design, construction, operation and maintenance of Boilers, Chillers and Cooling Towers. Experience with facilities management, technical maintenance or customer service.

Experience with repair and maintenance of facilities related equipment. Experience in a campus/ multi-building or single, multi-story building environment, preferred. Basic proficiency in MS software and end-user proficiency in CMMS software. Working knowledge with computer maintenance management systems (CMMS) s, preferred. Working knowledge of building automation systems (BAS) s (e.g., Metasys), preferred;
Good understanding of applicable building systems (e.g., steam, chilled water, compressed gases, heat exchangers, HVAC). Familiarity with campus building occupants, contractors, and consultants.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law

Steam Engineer First Class License from Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement required. Refrigeration Engineer First Class License from Memphis and Shelby County Office of Construction Code Enforcement required.

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only

EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification preferred.
