Job Description
The Maintenance Supervisor leads and oversees all maintenance, repair, and installation activities to ensure equipment reliability and uninterrupted production operations. This role coordinates maintenance teams and technical personnel in the fabrication, modification, and improvement of machinery, tools, and equipment, while managing plant utility systems such as electrical, compressed air, steam, gas, and HVAC to support continuous operations. The Maintenance Supervisor develops and maintains preventive and predictive maintenance programs that maximize equipment uptime and efficiency, conducts routine inspections to ensure compliance with safety and quality standards, and drives process improvements and best practices to reduce downtime and control costs.
This position also collaborates closely with engineering and operations teams on equipment upgrades and capital projects, manages maintenance-related sourcing and expenditures, and provides training, coaching, and development for maintenance personnel.
- Lead and oversee all maintenance, repair, and installation activities to ensure equipment reliability and uninterrupted production operations.
- Coordinate maintenance teams and technical personnel in the fabrication, modification, and improvement of machinery, tools, and equipment.
- Manage plant utility systems, including electrical, compressed air, steam, gas, and HVAC systems, to support continuous operations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain preventive and predictive maintenance programs that maximize equipment uptime and operational efficiency.
- Conduct routine inspections of machinery and equipment to ensure compliance with operational, safety, and quality standards.
- Identify and implement process improvements, maintenance strategies, and best practices to reduce downtime, control costs, and improve productivity.
- Collaborate with engineering teams on equipment upgrades, modifications, and capital improvement projects.
- Source and procure maintenance tools, equipment, and supplies, including obtaining vendor quotes and managing project expenditures.
- Ensure environmental systems and emission control equipment operate effectively and remain compliant with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Train, coach, and develop maintenance personnel on technical skills, safety requirements, company policies, and standard operating procedures.
- Partner with operations, engineering, quality, and leadership teams to troubleshoot maintenance issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist in resolving employee relations matters and support performance management activities when necessary.
- Monitor departmental spending and contribute to budget management and cost-control efforts.
- Maintain accountability for company assets by ensuring equipment is properly operated, inspected, cleaned, and maintained to prevent unnecessary damage.
- Evaluate workforce training needs and recommend improvements to work methods, procedures, and employee development programs.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance production processes, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Guide, mentor, and motivate maintenance team members to achieve departmental goals and performance objectives.
- Promote a strong culture of safety by ensuring compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and safe work practices, and by conducting corrective and disciplinary actions when necessary.
- Perform hands-ons troubleshooting of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems as needed to support maintenance activities.
- Interpret blueprints and schematics to diagnose issues and plan repairs or modifications.
- Oversee and support PLC troubleshooting and basic welding tasks as part of maintenance operations.
- 34 years of maintenance experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- 23 years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role overseeing maintenance personnel.
- Strong hands-ons troubleshooting skills for mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics for machinery and equipment.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting to support automated equipment and control systems.
- Knowledge of welding techniques sufficient to support equipment repair and fabrication.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate maintenance teams.
