Job Summary
The Housekeeper is responsible for meticulously cleaning the residents’ apartments, public areas, and work areas in accordance with community and company guidelines, policies, and procedures, and for taking direction from the Executive Director, Maintenance Director, Director of Housekeeping, Lead Housekeeper, or designee. The role supports MBK’s commitment to provide a safe, comfortable, and inviting community for staff, guests, and residents through superior customer service and a high standard of cleanliness.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform a full range of housekeeping duties, including cleaning and sanitizing all resident apartments, common areas, and offices, focusing on surfaces, fixtures, windows, floors, and carpets.
- Dust, fluff, and straighten furniture in internal and external public areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
- Follow established work and cleaning schedules as closely as practical.
- Ensure all safety signs are properly posted before tasks that could cause slips or falls, and remove them upon completion.
- Continuously monitor and remove all trash and waste from inside and outside areas to designated trash cans or disposal areas throughout the shift.
- Maintain a safe environment by using appropriate PPE (gloves, masks, aprons) when handling hazardous waste and chemicals, and by storing all supplies securely.
- Store all equipment and tools after use to keep work areas attractive, safe, and hazard‑free.
- Display a positive and professional image, greet residents warmly, and respond to simple requests or report resident needs to the appropriate department.
- Assist in laundry services for residents as scheduled or needed.
- Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations, and company policies, and report any health, safety, or sanitation concerns to the supervisor.
- Encourage teamwork through open communication with co‑workers and other departments, and perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
- High school diploma or GED, preferred.
- Prior experience in housekeeping or cleaning in a similar role, preferred; on‑the‑job training is available for candidates with the right attitude and desire.
- Compassion for the elderly and ability to interact with people of diverse ages and backgrounds.
- Understanding and ability to work in a resident‑centered environment, including exposure to unpleasant odors, bodily fluids, hazardous waste, and residents who may be ill or confused.
- Must be age 18 or over.
- Must complete required background clearances, health screening, and provide a negative TB test within 7 days of employment (within the last 6 months).
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and ability to follow written and spoken directions.
- Ability to handle conflict tactfully and professionally with personnel, residents, family members, and guests.
- Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
- Present a positive and professional image at all times.
Ability to use standard cleaning equipment and supplies; mobile and able to perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, squatting, and reaching overhead. Lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push up to 250 pounds as necessary. Assist in physical movement of residents during routine transfers and emergencies.
