Position: Custodian (37.5 Hour) (Office/On-site)

Position Highlights

Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, second (2nd) shift. Monday – Friday, 2:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Meriden, CT. Year‑round position; first shift during summer break, then return to regular second shift schedule when school resumes in August.

Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial tasks and maintenance of areas such as classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms, and lavatories, including outdoor areas (e.g., trash around buildings).
  • Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax and polish floors, shampoo carpets using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers.
  • Wash, dust and polish glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and metal equipment.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recycling in appropriate containers.
  • Report needs for repairs and perform minor maintenance.
  • Inspect building for damage and report conditions to supervisor.
  • Run errands as needed and perform related duties as required.

  • Capability to operate, care for, and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.

Minimum Qualifications

Any experience and training which would provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience performing custodial work in a school.
  • Experience waxing and polishing floors using floor polishers and buffers.
  • Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around large buildings.
  • Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
  • Experience with deep‑cleaning and disinfecting large facilities.
Physical Requirements

Must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, visual and auditory acuity, and maintain such fitness as to be able to perform the duties. A physical examination may be required.

Working Conditions

May be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and/or individuals.
