Custodian Lead - Zaharis Elementary School
Employment Type: Full-time (40 hours per week)
Schedule: 2ND Shift Evening (plus $0.35/hr shift pay)
Base Hourly: $19.89
Class/Calendar: B21, 12 months
Benefits: Vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement matched through the Arizona State Retirement System, health, and life insurance
Performance Pay: Available annually. 1% of base hourly rate granted for each year of verified experience beyond requirement (up to ten‑year maximum). 1% awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required.

Supervise custodial staff assigned to the school; perform custodial duties per district standards; maintain cleanliness and safe conditions of a school environment.
Drug and Alcohol TestingPrior to employment or during the first 3 months of probationary period, all new contract employees in Custodial must pass a drug and alcohol test. A positive result disqualifies the applicant.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise custodians assigned to the school.
- Assist with diversified tasks (e.g., lights, special setups, opening/closing buildings) to maintain the school plant.
- Request needed supplies and equipment from district warehouse.
- Conduct frequent inspections of school plant.
- Implement improvements in cleaning procedures when necessary.
- Maintain site custodial payroll records and submit reports to district custodial office.
- Maintain upkeep of school during summer session.
- Supervise and assist in summer clean‑up as directed by supervisor.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Attend regularly and on time.
- Work special events at school when needed.
- Report necessary facility repairs and equipment problems.
- Monitor daily work and complete specific assignments.
- Assist with other duties as appropriate for the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools.
- Minimum six months’ custodial experience.
- Working knowledge and experience of custodial equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning procedures.
- High school education or equivalent.
- Record‑keeping experience.
- Minimum six months supervisory experience.
- Models attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate.

- Ability to plan and organize effectively, work independently and under pressure.
- Ability to supervise employees and resolve personnel and custodial issues.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members.
- Satisfactory work record.
- Computer proficiency (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).

Physical Requirements
- Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, and outside maintaining school grounds.
- Schools can be bustling with students, teachers, and activities, requiring navigation through crowds and maintenance of order.
- Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions.
- May work special events at school, including weekends.
- May be exposed to high temperatures when working outside.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor as required; ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.
