Job SummaryTo perform custodial duties as required by district standards; to maintain the cleanliness and safe conditions of a school environment.
Pre-Employment ScreeningPrior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Operations. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform custodial duties as required by district standards
- Perform many diversified tasks each day to maintain the cleanliness and safe condition of the schools
- Operate custodial power equipment
- Assist in moving equipment and furniture as required
- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Working knowledge and experience of custodial equipment, supplies, and proper cleaning procedures
- High School education or GED preferred
- Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate
- Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community
- Ability to work independently, under pressure and follow directions
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor as required
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with staff members
- Satisfactory work record
- Ability to communicate effectively
Physical Requirements
- Custodians work inside classrooms, hallways, restrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, and offices, as well as outside maintaining school grounds
- Frequent use of cleaning solutions, disinfectants, and floor treatments requires proper safety precautions
- Exposed to high temperatures when working outside
- Requires long periods of standing and walking, often covering large areas of the school throughout the shift
- Frequently bends to clean floors, pick up trash, and access low areas
- Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, and other cleaning activities require repetitive arm and hand movements
- Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds

Full-time (40 hours per week), 2nd Shift Evening (plus $.35/hr shift pay)
Base Hourly: $17.12
