St. Joseph Catholic Parish, located in Miami Beach, is hiring for a part-time Maintenance/ Custodial Person. This person will work under the direction of the Office Manager and is responsible for tasks that clean, improve, maintain, and repair the grounds, facilities, and related equipment of all properties of St. Joseph Catholic Parish. These properties consist of the church/sacristy/chapel, parish office/rectory. Responsibilities include a variety of janitorial tasks;
assisting with building, repairs, and installation tasks in carpentry, plumbing, painting, mechanical repairs, structural repairs, lighting, setup and breakdown for events (if needed), and changing of the A/C filters. The Maintenance Person performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision and values of the Archdiocese of Miami.
Schedule: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Responsibilities include:- Complete work orders assigned by the Office Manager on Parish and Rectory facilities.
- Clean the assigned buildings and bathrooms therein, including sweeping, mopping, and dusting furniture on a regular basis in the church and rectory; gather and dispose of trash and waste materials by hand.
- Observe appearance and condition of all premises and applicable equipment; report needed repairs, safety hazards, or conditions requiring outside vendor services.
- Dust the assigned buildings items such as blinds, furniture, file cabinets, and windowsills using treated cloths or hand cleaning items.
- Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, mirrors, and fixtures using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges or squeegees (using a step ladder when applicable).
- Clean area rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and/or draperies, using vacuum cleaners and/or shampooers.
- Empty wastebaskets and transport to outside receptacles/dumpster.
- Perform lawn and garden maintenance including removing debris, weeding and mulching flower- and plant beds, and blowing dried leaves as needed.
- Water lawns, trees, or plants using portable sprinkler systems, hoses or watering cans.
- Use the leaf blower to blow all leaves and debris from the Church roof twice a month on Tuesday before the landscapers are scheduled to arrive.
- Pressure clean the sidewalks around the church and rectory twice a month.
- Ensure that trees are pruned weekly. Remove old drying palms, leaves, etc.
- If needed, mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides or insecticides onto grass, shrubs or trees.
- Observe appearance and condition of premises and applicable equipment; report needed repairs, safety hazards, or anything out of the ordinary to the Office Manager.
- Perform carpentry and construction-related tasks such as small installations not requiring permits.
- Repair or replace defective parts, equipment, and structures; and reassemble equipment, using hand or power tools. Approach repair work critically to ensure that the repair is the best solution and make recommendations to the Office Manager on better alternative solutions or approaches, if applicable.
- Replace small components and parts in electrical devices (lamps, light bulbs, sockets, etc.) in Church and Rectory.
- Perform tasks to accomplish special projects (building, reallocation of office space and furniture, etc.) according to work orders.
- Complete tasks according to appropriate specifications, standards/best work practices and within scheduled parameters. Keep the office manager appraised of progress.
- Clean air-conditioning systems and change filters monthly or according to determined schedule. Check for any leaks or clogs.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and to prevent deterioration of buildings/structures.
- Perform routine inspections of equipment, fluid levels, etc., following checklists.
- Store chemicals, paints, liquids and hazardous substances with their respective MSDS (material safety data sheet) and new product documentation.
