Chief Engineer in Miami

Overview

The High Rise Chief Engineer plays a pivotal leadership role in driving operational excellence and long‑term performance by overseeing all maintenance, mechanical systems, and facility operations. This position is accountable for executing preventative maintenance strategies, leading and developing the maintenance team, and ensuring that all building systems operate efficiently and safely. The role also involves partnering closely with the Association Manager to provide strategic oversight of vendors, resolve complex technical issues, and maintain high standards of satisfaction through responsive, service‑focused execution.

• Perform day‑to‑day routine maintenance of the building utilizing the maintenance staff in a leadership role.
• Develop and adhere to the preventative maintenance program for the community, updating as needed.
• Supervise all building repairs performed by outside vendors, reporting satisfactory or unsatisfactory completion to the Association Manager.
• Maintain an operating environment to achieve a satisfactory level of service as measured by formal and informal feedback and surveys.
• Monitor all building systems and perform any and all basic repairs as needed.
• Respond to phone calls and correspondence in a timely, professional manner.
• Encourage maintenance staff to act professionally, comply with company safety standards and work as a team.
• Create maintenance reports that update the property condition, progress of specific projects, and provide clear recommendations.
• Observe all safety standards and participate in the company’s efforts to provide a safe work environment.
• Organize time effectively and balance competing demands of multiple projects.
• Keep equipment maintenance logs, inventory, and preventive maintenance manual up to date quarterly.

• High School Degree or equivalent; AA degree in a related field preferred.
• 3 to 5 years of experience as a Maintenance employee in a supervisory role on high‑rise buildings.
• HVAC Certified or equivalent technical certification.
• Strong knowledge of basic trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and painting principles.
• Ability to analyze and interpret technical aspects of pumps, motors and mechanical systems.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Valid Florida driver’s license.
• Ability to respond to emergencies within 2 hours and be available for night or weekend duties.

The role requires working outdoors in various weather conditions, occasionally next to moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, and with exposure to fumes and moderate to loud noise. Physical demands include standing, walking, using hands, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Full time (40 hours per week). Exempt salaried position. Requires availability for emergencies, occasional night and weekend work, and off‑site meetings during business hours within the local city limits.
