Requirements And Preferences
The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a full‑time Maintenance Worker in the Cruise Terminals of the Port Everglades Operations Division. The role includes custodial duties throughout the cruise terminals, setup and breakdown of furniture and equipment for events, and operation of passenger loading bridges. The position operates under general supervision, but crew supervisors decide task timing and execution.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare and open cruise terminals, and secure them at the end of use.
- Perform custodial duties in terminals, offices, bathrooms, break rooms, and adjacent exterior grounds.
- Position and monitor loading bridges for passenger boarding and disembarking.
- Safely operate loading bridges, forklifts, scissor lifts, buffers, burnishers, power washers, blowers, vacuums, and other equipment.
- Use ladders, cleaning tools, motorized equipment, and handheld devices to track and complete work assignments.
- Set up and break down furniture and equipment for meetings and events, including hanging banners and decorations.
- Identify and report maintenance issues to the supervisory chain.
- Prepare logs documenting work activities and equipment usage.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and collaborate with Customer Relations Specialists and Harbormasters.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 months of maintenance or closely related experience.
- Ability to secure a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) within 60 days of employment and maintain it for the duration.
- Ability to secure and keep a valid Seaport Business Purpose Credential for the duration.
- Regular and predictable attendance; availability on weekends and holidays.
Performs a variety of general building and grounds maintenance and repair tasks at an assigned facility, determining how and when to complete tasks under general supervision.
Scope Of Work- Maintains grounds and landscape areas to be presentable, clean, and safe.
- Performs facility maintenance to keep the environment safe for public and County employees.
- Cleans offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks.
- Moves furniture and items to rearrange workstations, set up for meetings, activities, and events.
- Provides directions or information to the public or County employees; resolves operational issues.
- Sets temporary traffic control devices to ensure safe work environment.
- Prepares log sheets to document activities and track equipment usage.
- Maintains landscape and construction equipment for safe operation.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Physical Demands
Medium to heavy work involving walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing, raising objects. Requires exerting 20–50 pounds of force regularly and 50–100 pounds occasionally.
Unavoidable Hazards
Exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, operating heavy equipment, and working around public passenger area.
