Job Summary & Responsibilities
The Temporary Facilities Laborer is assigned responsibility for the commercial building site in Caro, MI, ensuring a clean and safe environment for work.
- General landscaping and lawn care, including watering, mowing, weed maintenance, shrub trimming and replacement, and lawn fertilization.
- Internal and external building cleaning and maintenance: glass window cleaning, painting handrails and guards, light bulb replacement, and general area cleanup.
- Operate facilities equipment throughout the campus, such as cleaning carts, forklifts, lawn mowers, bobcat sweepers, vacuums, snow blowers, shovels, brooms, mops, and ladders.
- Support general facility projects and repairs, picking up parts, assisting with equipment repair, cleaning equipment components, and shadowing technicians.
- Operate POET fleet vehicles for maintenance service and cleanup tasks.
- Foster a culture of safety, environmental compliance, teamwork, and community engagement.
- Assist in maintaining food safety and quality standards across POET’s processes.
- Apply skills to a variety of tasks as required by the team.
- High school diploma or equivalent, currently pursuing or recently completed.
- General safety awareness and willingness to follow directions for task completion.
- Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently on various projects.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite with a willingness to learn new programs.
- Practical decision‑making skills and high personal integrity.
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with individuals at all organizational levels.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving and critical‑thinking abilities.
- Ability to embrace and promote change, an innovative mindset, and objective thinking.
- Self‑awareness in uncertain situations and strong teamwork capabilities.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, steel‑toed boots, hearing protection, and, when required, self‑contained breathing systems and hazardous material suits.
- Work at extreme heights up to 150 ft, in confined spaces, and in temperatures ranging from –20°F to +100°F both indoors and outdoors.
- Use a variety of equipment and tools (cleanup carts, forklifts, mowers, sweepers, vacuums, snow blowers, shovels, ladders).
- Frequently walk on slippery surfaces, grip forces up to 20lbs, push/pull forces up to 30lbs, bend forward while standing, and perform repetitive arm motions.
- Occasionally lift or carry up to 50lbs, often in awkward back, shoulder, wrist, and hand positions.
- Pass a drug screen during pre‑screen and be subject to random drug and alcohol testing while employed.
