Lead Custodian– Job Description
Position: Lead Custodian
Work Year: 52 weeks
Hours: 40 hours per week, second shift
Salary Range: Step One through 6-30-26 $ 16.75;
After 7-1-26 $ 18.63
Benefits: Single subscriber benefits package
Reports To: Operations Supervisor
Starting Date: Immediately

Position SummaryProvides custodial services at assigned site(s); ensures an attractive, sanitary and safe environment for students, staff and visitors; performs a variety of special cleaning operations, and assists in preparing facilities for classroom activities and building events.
Essential Functions Including But Not Limited To- Clean, dust, and wipe furniture; sweep, mop, or vacuum floors; empty/clean wastebaskets and trash containers; replace light bulbs; refill restroom dispensers; wash windows
- Clean and sanitize restrooms/bathrooms using established practices and procedures
- Follow instructions regarding the use of chemicals and supplies
- Setup and tear down of facilities for meetings, classrooms, conferences, events, etc.
- Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets
- Grounds cleanup and snow removal as necessary
- Maintain building and door security
- Perform minor maintenance in the building
- Work collaboratively with building staff
- Create positive relationships with students, staff members, and all building stakeholders
- Help develop a daily custodial plan
- Assist leadership of the custodial staff in cooperation with the Head Custodian, Complex Custodian, and Operations Supervisor
- Other duties assigned by the building administrator or Operations Supervisor
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Working knowledge of custodial work, including cleaning methods and materials and the use of custodial equipment, gained in at least one year of experience or a combination of education and experience
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work with the department team members; organizational skills; creative problem-solving ability; systematic planning; and the ability to plan for future needs
- Previous custodial experience is preferred but not required
Regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Use of ladders, power equipment, and other hand tools is required. Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus, especially for computer work.

Work may expose the employee to wet or humid conditions, moving parts, hazardous chemicals and fumes, outdoor weather, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Exposure to bodily fluids and blood borne pathogens is possible.
