Maintenance Aide

Title: Maintenance Aide

Reports to: Maintenance / Custodial Coordinator and/or Superintendent

General

Summary:

Assists in day-to-day operations of school district by providing custodial, maintenance, and security services. Work schedule may vary based on scheduled projects and may include various hours due to weather conditions.

Primary Duties:

• Proven mechanical and/or skilled trades capabilities
• Experienced in general carpentry, glazing, commercial door hardware, painting, general plumbing, basic electrical, operation of grounds maintenance equipment and overall good mechanical aptitude.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of air handlers, roof top units, boilers, refrigeration systems, cooling, tower equipment and heating control systems is preferred.
• Performs maintenance repair and improvement tasks
• Deliver receivables to teachers and/or staff
• Responsible for the sanitary condition of building facilities
• Responsible for minor repairs of furniture
• Provide security services by securing building exits and admitting individuals within school district policies
• Responsible for the care of school grounds including removal of snow from parking lots, walkways, sidewalks, steps and other areas as needed
• Represent school district in a professional manner during interactions with staff, external vendors and general public
• Additional duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to follow oral and written instructions
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to perform physical labor required for custodial duties including long hours while standing, bending and lifting
• Maintains a high level of confidentiality
• Possess good interpersonal skills in working with students, staff and general public
• Previous work experience preferred
• High School Diploma or GED required
• Must pass a skills test

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, sit, move about, hear and speak. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee may be required to work in restricted spaces to include crawling and/or climbing as working uired to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift. Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, and mechanical lift.

Ability to spend most of the work-day standing, lifting, and walking. Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.

Ability to communicate in person, by radio, electronically and over the phone. Ability to use computer equipment to complete reports, generate service orders, maintain inventories, etc. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. It may be expected that the individual could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during the course of their duties.
