Toperform a varietyof public worksand/or recreation, construction, maintenance, repair, custodial andlabor activities involving public parks, municipal buildings,and grounds; tooperate vehicles andother power-driven equipment and tools; and to perform general labor and related work asneededand directed.

Work is performed under the supervision of the Department of Public Works Superintendent and/orthe Project Leader.

(These examples do not include all the tasks which the employee may be expected to perform.)

• Operate trucks for snow removal hauling asphalt, stone, sand,brick, leaves, tools, or other materials.
• Operate chain saw, brush chippers, snowplow, loaders, tractors, andother equipment.
• Perform any of a variety of tasks involving physical general strength and agility, such as breaking concrete, asphalt streets and sidewalks, digging holes and trenches, cleaning and sweeping streets, alleys, and gutters.
• Load dirt andother material into trucks.
• Operate pumps, air compressors, lawn mowers, tree sprayer andother power-driven equipment and tools.
• Perform varied landscaping and grounds maintenance related work.
• Cut, prune and spray trees and shrubs.
• Assist in maintaining recreation equipment and facilities.
• Perform snow removal activities.
• Assist in maintenance of water distribution system.
• Place and remove barricades and flares.
• Make minor repair sand adjustments to equipment and facilities.
• Repairand patch streets and alleys.
• Mix and pour concrete.
• Install, repair, and replace, street andother signs.
• Remove paint from signs, prepare surfaces to be painted and operate paint sprayer.
• Perform minor maintenance of picnic tablesand benches.
• Repair, paint, cleanand maintain facilities and equipment.
• Clean and maintain play fields, ball diamonds, and other recreation facilities.
• Flood and maintain ice rinks.
• Prep ball diamonds, install platesand bases and perform similar work.
• Prepare new parksites as required.
• Move, replace, and assemble office furniture.
• Set up recreation facility rooms.
• Perform lubricating and other minor service activities.
• Prepare and maintain records as required.
• Set up andremove bleachers, benches, and other facilities.

• Must possess a High School Diploma orGED.
• Must have knowledge of work methods and practices and procedures involved inpublic works and recreation construction, maintenance, and repair activities.
• Must have knowledge of vehicle operation and power-driven equipment andtools.
• Must be ableto perform heavy manual labor under varying work conditions with no weight restrictions.
• Must be familiar with streets andother locations withinthe City.
• Must have the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
• Must have mechanical aptitude.
• Must have knowledge of custodial, building and grounds maintenance activities.
• Must have knowledge of methods, materials and equipment usedin building and grounds maintenance work.
• Must be familiar with recreation equipment and park facilities.
• Must have the ability to successfully perform a varietyof maintenance andrepair activities.
• Must have the ability to understand and follow oraland written instructions.
• Must have the ability to work successfully with the public and with other employees.
• Must be willing to attend training to obtain a valid chauffeurs license (CDL) with Air Brakes, and Group B with an N endorsement within the first year of employment.
