Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, multipurpose rooms, corridors, stairs, windows, sinks, drinking fountains, carpets, garbage cans and wastebaskets; mop, scrub, buffer and vacuum floors.
- Maintain grounds and perform seasonal ground work: sidewalk care, snow removal, lawn care, shrubs and landscaping, parking lots, driveways, fencing and trash pick‑up.
- Restock disposable items, maintain inventory records, and request supplies as needed.
- Assist visitors with directions and facility usage.
- Perform minor repairs using hand tools, power tools and gardening equipment; conduct preventive maintenance, change bulbs, clear drains, adjust thermostats.
- Promote energy conservation by turning off lights, closing doors, regulating thermostats and checking for leaks.
- Communicate regularly with the Principal, Supervisor and students about maintenance needs and safety issues; report any damage or required repairs.
- Ensure building and grounds security: lock/unlock gates and doors, check windows, and monitor fire hazards.
- Follow safety protocols, wear PPE, and manage lift and handling safely.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality.
Maintains a clean, safe, and attractive environment; demonstrates high productivity and reliable performance; applies the proper procedures, maintains accurate records, and continuously seeks improvement in work quality and safety.
Minimum Education or Experience- High school graduate or GED
- Previous custodial experience preferred
Skills and Abilities
- Prioritize, organize, and accomplish assigned work independently or as part of a team.
- Identify building conditions and hazardous chemicals; use chemicals safely and dispose of them correctly.
- Work with custodial equipment and perform basic repair tasks.
- Recognize problems, determine causes, and take corrective action.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with clarity and courtesy.
- Perform basic mathematics to measure weight, volume, and distance.
- Read, write and interpret rules, reports and procedure manuals.
- Execute physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, bending and stooping up to 50 lb and standing for long periods.
- Possess a valid Iowa driver’s license.
- Walk/stand continuously; perform repetitive bending and stooping.
- Climb ladders, manipulate stairs and handle equipment weighing up to 60 lb.
- Maintain balance on wet, icy or snow‑covered surfaces; reach up to 74 inches occasionally.
- Push or pull equipment up to 100 lb over distances up to 300 ft.
- Use upper and lower limbs for manipulation, coordination, and sustained effort.
Indoor operations with occasional outdoor work; exposure to mechanical equipment and chemicals; moderate noise level; strict deadlines; drug, alcohol and tobacco free zone.
