What You'll Do:
As a Critical Environments Operating Engineer, you'll ensure 100% uptime of mission-critical data center infrastructure. Your expertise keeps the digital world running.
Core Responsibilities:
- Maintain and monitor all building systems including fire/life safety, HVAC, chillers, CRAC/CRAH units, plumbing, and building controls to ensure continuous operation.
- Operate and maintain electrical systems including UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, emergency generators, primary switch gear, power distribution equipment, and transformers.
- Monitor refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; adjust boilers, ventilating systems, and water heaters; maintain pumps, valves, piping, and filters.
- Record equipment readings, analyze system performance, diagnose problems, and take corrective action to prevent downtime.
- Manage work orders through CMMS, coordinate with vendors, and respond to customer-facing tickets efficiently.
- Execute emergency escalation procedures and manage incidents that could impact critical systems.
- Maintain safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with departmental policy.
- Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe at all times.
Required Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience in data centers, critical facilities, power plants, or industrial operations with 24/7 uptime requirements.
- Hands-on experience with building systems including UPS systems, emergency generators, switch gear, and/or HVAC controls.
- Strong troubleshooting skills - you can analyze complex systems, identify root causes, and solve problems independently.
- Clear verbal and written communication abilities for documentation and team coordination.
- Working knowledge of MS Office and computerized maintenance management systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Corrigo CMMS experience
- Universal EPA 608 certification (or willingness to obtain)
- NFPA 70E electrical safety training
- Military veterans with facility operations experience strongly encouraged to apply
- Oil & gas, power generation, or industrial plant operations background
- This hands-on role requires physical capability and comfort working in industrial environments:
- Walk large campus-style facilities throughout your shift
- Lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Climb stairs and access rooftop equipment in all weather conditions
- Use ladders up to 30 ft and work at heights safely (300 lb weight limit)
- Work various schedules including holidays as needed
- Respond to site emergencies outside regular hours when required
