Position Function/
Purpose:
Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Major Responsibilities:
- Maintain a program of preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health, and safety of student and staff.
- Assume the responsibility opening and closing the building each school day.
- Establish procedures for locking, checking safeguarding facilities.
- Setting and moving irrigation pipe and sprinklers on campus grounds as assigned.
- Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all doors are working properly during the hour of building occupancy.
- Develop and maintain a cleaning schedule that will include the cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
- Keep the school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas neat and clean.
- Observe and inform supervisor of safety hazards.
- Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.
- Make minor building repairs as needed for the principal.
- Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and order additional supplies as requested.
- Move furniture or equipment within the building as directed by the Principal/Head Custodian.
- Assist in compliance with occupational health and safety policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
- Inform supervisor and/or proper authorities of any safety hazard.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school policies and regulations concerning primary job functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Head Custodian, Principal, Zone Trainer or Custodial Supervisor.
Qualification Requirements:
Ability to read, write and understand verbal instructions in English. Knowledge of basic techniques of minor repairs and building and ground maintenance. Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment. Properly handle and use cleaning supplies. Ability to lift and carry 15-44 lbs. without assistance. Valid Texas Driver License and acceptable driving record; must adhere to Midland ISD's vehicle safety and use program.

Heavy Lifting, Pushing/pulling, Strenuous Walking, Repeated Bending, Standing and or Climbing, Reaching above head and to the floor. Equipment used:
Buffer/Stripper Shampoo machine/extractor, Mop/broom, Blower, Wet and Dry Vacuum cleaner, All industry standard custodial equipment, Electric drill/hand tools, Weed eater, Ladder.
