Job Title: Emissions / VRU / Flare Technician
Location: Midland, TX
Duration: 12-month contract (likely extension based on business needs)
Per Diem: None (local candidates preferred)
Role Overview
The Emissions/VRU/Flare Technician supports field environmental compliance by monitoring, measuring, documenting, and reducing emissions at oil and gas production facilities. The technician works independently in the field, traveling daily between tank batteries, compressor stations, well sites, and production facilities to inspect equipment, identify emission sources, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company standards.
The role combines environmental compliance, production operations, troubleshooting, and field maintenance while supporting safe and efficient hydrocarbon production.
What They're Looking For
- Experience in upstream oil & gas production operations
- Field experience with emissions monitoring and LDAR-related activities
- Knowledge of VRUs (Vapor Recovery Units) and flare systems
- Experience inspecting tanks, separators, compressor stations, and production facilities
- Ability to troubleshoot emissions equipment and identify leaks
- Understanding of EPA, TCEQ, and environmental compliance requirements
- Comfortable working independently in the field
- Strong safety mindset
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel daily throughout the Midland area

- Lease Operator

- Facilities Operator
- Operations Technician
- Measurement Technician (with emissions exposure)
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and measure facility emissions
- Inspect flares, vapor recovery units, and production equipment
- Identify and document emissions sources
- Perform leak inspections and basic troubleshooting
- Support emissions reduction initiatives
- Complete environmental documentation and reports
- Ensure compliance with EPA, state, and company regulations
- Coordinate with Operations and Environmental teams
- Follow company safety procedures and field standards
- Travel daily between production facilities
Ideal Candidate
The strongest candidate will have several years of upstream production experience with hands-on exposure to emissions compliance, VRUs, flare systems, tank batteries, compressor stations, and environmental inspections. They should be comfortable working independently in the field, troubleshooting equipment, documenting findings, and ensuring facilities remain compliant with environmental regulations.
