The Junior High Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring individualized instructional programs while creating a safe, engaging, and positive learning environment for students receiving special education services.

• Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned to each student's educational needs.
• Prepare engaging daily lesson plans that support student growth and achievement.
• Provide accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities, including specific learning disabilities, communication disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
• Monitor student progress and prepare progress reports for families.
• Participate in Parent-Teacher Conferences and maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians.
• Collaborate with administrators, psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, and other specialists to support student success.
• Attend multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to the development and implementation of IEPs.
• Coordinate with general education teachers to support inclusive instructional practices and successful mainstreaming opportunities.
• Modify curriculum and instructional strategies to maximize student learning and independence.
• Supervise and provide direction to paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
• Maintain accurate student records and communicate atypical situations to administration.
• Foster a positive classroom culture through consistent expectations and effective behavior supports.
• Monitor student behavioral patterns and implement appropriate interventions when needed.
• Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and Special Services meetings.
• Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and school property while requesting necessary instructional supplies.
• Adhere to all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, and district procedures.
• Maintain professional standards consistent with the District's teacher evaluation process.
• Participate in school activities and contribute positively to the school community.

Applicants must:

• Hold a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Learning Behavior Specialist 1 (LBS1) endorsement.
• Demonstrate knowledge of best instructional practices for students with diverse learning needs.
• Possess strong collaboration, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Be committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and student-centered learning environment.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with:

• Building administration
• District Student Services personnel
• General education teachers
• Related service providers (psychologists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, etc.)
• Paraprofessionals
• Students and families
• Multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement student goals and instructional programming
