Custodian

This position supports the mission and work of the Y by ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming facility for members, staff, and guests. Under the direction of the District Facility Director, the Custodian performs daily cleaning, basic upkeep, and grounds tasks to maintain readiness of program spaces and common areas in alignment with Association standards.

• Model the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in all interactions.
• Perform daily cleaning of lobbies, program spaces, restrooms/locker rooms, offices, and common areas; restock supplies and maintain custodial closets in neat, orderly condition.
• Complete routine facility checks and basic upkeep; promptly report building or maintenance issues to the District Facility Director/Executive Director.
• Maintain exterior areas (e.g., entries, sidewalks, parking lots, dumpster areas) free of debris and hazards.
• Safely operate and care for cleaning equipment and chemicals per manufacturer guidelines and Association procedures.
• Follow YMCA policies, emergency procedures, and mandated reporting/abuse‑prevention protocols.
• Support set‑ups/tear‑downs for programs, rentals, and events; assist with special projects as assigned.

• Prior experience as a custodian/janitor or in similar building services; working knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies.
• Observant, safety‑conscious, and able to remain calm and respond appropriately in emergencies.
• Reliable, organized, and able to follow schedules and written/oral instructions; basic recordkeeping as required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team; may include early morning, evening, or weekend shifts.
