The City of Millville is seeking motivated, dependable individuals to fill the entry level position of Laborer I. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, take pride in serving their community, and are looking for a career in public service.
Position Information
Position Title: Laborer I in Parks and Public Property
Employment Type: Full-Time
Hourly Rate: $16.00 per hour
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Hours: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (40 hours per week)
What You'll Do
As a Laborer I, you'll help support a wide range of public works, maintenance, and community improvement projects throughout the City. Every day brings new opportunities to contribute to the services that residents rely on.
As a Laborer I, you'll help maintain and improve the City of Millville's roads, parks, facilities, and public spaces. Duties may include (but are not limited to):
- Loading, moving, and transporting materials, equipment, and supplies
- Assisting with construction, maintenance, and repair projects
- Performing manual labor such as digging, grading, and site preparation
- Maintaining parks and grounds, including mowing, trimming, and debris removal
- Supporting road repairs, storm cleanup, and snow removal operations
- Operating or learning to operate public works and maintenance equipment
- Helping maintain streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and other public infrastructure
- Performing other related duties that support City operations and services

What We're Looking For
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in doing a job well, and is committed to working safely and effectively as part of a team. Must be 18 years of age upon hire.
Successful candidates should have the ability to:
- Perform a variety of manual labor tasks using common tools, materials, and equipment.
- Work independently or collaboratively as part of a crew.
- Perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Follow instructions, established procedures, and work assignments accurately.
- Learn to safely operate tools, equipment, vehicles, and machinery used in public works and maintenance operations.
- Follow all safety rules, procedures, and precautions while performing assigned duties.
- Utilize electronic and/or manual recordkeeping, reporting, and information systems as required.
- Read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English to perform the essential functions of the position. American Sign Language (ASL) and Braille may also be accepted forms of communication.
- Demonstrate a strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to serving the community.
A valid New Jersey Driver's License may be required depending on departmental assignment. A CDL is a plus.
