Chief Engineer

Location: Element San Jose Milpitas

• High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or trade school education preferred
• 3-5 years of hotel engineering or facilities maintenance experience, including supervisory experience
• Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and preventative maintenance programs
• Experience managing budgets, expenses, and capital projects
• Ability to lead, train, and schedule a maintenance team
• Fluency in English
• Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to asset preservation
• Flexible schedule with the ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergency situations as needed
• Sense of pride in delivering exceptional guest experiences and maintaining a safe, well‑maintained property

• Lead and oversee all engineering and maintenance operations for the hotel
• Create and manage schedules for the maintenance team to ensure adequate coverage and timely completion of work orders
• Maintain the overall condition and appearance of the hotel through effective preventative maintenance programs
• Ensure all guest rooms, public spaces, back‑of‑house areas, and exterior grounds are maintained to brand standards
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests and coordinate repairs to minimize guest impact
• Manage departmental budgets, expenses, purchasing, and checkbook reconciliation while maintaining cost controls
• Monitor utility usage and identify opportunities for energy conservation and operational efficiencies
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including life safety requirements
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspections, and preventative maintenance documentation
• Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and projects
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, pool, and life safety systems
• Assist in planning and executing capital improvement projects to protect and enhance the hotel asset
• Train, coach, and develop engineering team members while fostering a culture of safety and accountability
• Communicate effectively with hotel leadership regarding ongoing projects, repairs, and operational needs
• Respond to guest concerns in a timely and professional manner to ensure an exceptional guest experience
