Zoo Maintenance Worker Assistant

Hourly pay range: $17.50 - $20.00

Job Summary:
The Zoo Maintenance Worker Assistant will assist with maintenance and repairs of the buildings, equipment, and grounds of the zoo. This position performs a wide range of entry level maintenance tasks to assist other Zoo Maintenance Workers. The Zoo Maintenance Worker Assistant will also help with skilled trades when needed.
- Under the guidance of the Maintenance Manager or Maintenance Workers, repair and maintain zoo structures and equipment, and help build props inside animal exhibits.
- Install weather stripping for doors and windows. Caulk windows and buildings to increase energy efficiency.
- Perform basic painting of structures and equipment both indoors and outdoors.
- Assist the Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Workers, and skilled trades as needed.
- Assist the System Control Coordinator take meter readings. Perform basic data entry into Cityworks.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Current resident of Wisconsin.
- Possession of a Wisconsin Driver's License at the time of hire, able to be maintained throughout employment.
- Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Able to lift/carry and push/pull up to 50lbs.
- Willing to work irregular hours with overtime, weekends, or shift rotation.
- Basic knowledge of Outlook, Learning Management Systems, and Spreadsheets.
- Mechanical background or previous experience.
- Technical training in maintenance or trade from high school or a technical college.
- Maintenance experience.
Note:
This original application is open to permanent residents of the state of Wisconsin at the time of application. In accordance with Section 11, Rule 3 of the Civil Service Rules a non-competitive examination will be held for this position. The non-competitive examination will consist of criteria deemed appropriate by the Director of Human Resources.
