Part Time Facilities Maintenance Specialist – Advanced

located near Oshkosh WI is hiring for a part time (0.6 FTE) Facilities Maintenance Specialist-Advanced position to work approximately 24 hours a week. The typical schedule will be first shift on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with a weekend rotation. Additional hours may be scheduled including weekends and holidays, depending on the needs of the facility.
A $3,000 sign‑on bonus applies to those who do not have prior state service in the last five years. You must stay with WMHI in the position until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,500 at hire and $1,500 after completing probation.

As the Facilities Maintenance Specialist – Advanced, you will perform general maintenance duties on (but not limited to) the following systems: heating, plumbing, electrical, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and minor washer and dryer repairs. You will be required to work around patients/inmates.
Responsibilities include:
- Inspecting, maintaining, installing, removing and making repairs of institute floors, roofs, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, furniture, parking lots, sidewalks, playgrounds, and various building hardware and equipment.
- Submitting monthly estimates of material needed to perform assigned tasks.
- Keeping accurate logs.
- Being responsible for the security of tools and keys.
- Working in other areas such as the grounds department as needed.
The starting pay is $25.57 per hour, plus excellent benefits. A 12‑month probationary period is required. Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is in pay schedule and range 03/13.
All applicants who may be appointed to this position will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I‑9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E‑Verify employer nor a STEM‑OPT eligible employer.
Applicants must be able to work outside in various weather conditions.
This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements for the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy, which are:
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Minimum of two years non‑probationary licensed driving experience with a regular (Class
D) driver’s license. - Must be 18 years of age or older.
Additionally, your driving record MUST NOT reflect any of the following conditions:
- Three or more moving violations and/or at‑fault accidents in the past two years.
- Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)/Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months.
- Suspension or revocation of driver's license.
Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Experience performing ground maintenance, lawn mowing or snow removal.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy to drive a state vehicle.
Well‑qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:
- Experience performing minor door and window repairs.
- Experience assembling and installing desks, furniture, shelves, bulletin boards, or picture frames.
- Experience removing or installing floor and ceiling tiles, ceiling track, or ductwork.
- Experience assisting and working with maintenance craftsmen and building mechanics.
