Description
Highway Maintenance Worker – Le Sueur Highway Shop. Non‑Exempt. The role performs intermediate skilled trades work in installing, maintaining, cleaning, and repairing public roadways, buildings, and property; operating equipment; responding to after‑hour or emergency needs; and related tasks as assigned under limited supervision of the Highway Maintenance Supervisor.
Essential Functions- Road and equipment maintenance: cleaning, maintenance, installation, repair, snow maintenance, sanding, salting, installing signage, repairing and replacing surfaces, cleaning culverts, cutting, trimming and treating trees and brush, installing mailboxes, general turf maintenance.
- Attend meetings; participate in equipment and supply inventory.
- Perform general building maintenance and duties for other municipalities and governments.
- Operate material‑moving equipment used in highway maintenance; maintain safe operation by checking fuel, tire pressure, and condition; report issues.
- Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance: cleaning, changing oil, greasing parts.
- Log daily activities including time, fuel use, and maintenance performed.
Thorough knowledge of operating heavy trucks and equipment; mechanical operations; traffic laws; safety precautions. Mechanical aptitude, arithmetic competency (whole numbers, fractions, decimals), ability to work independently, follow directions, make minor repairs, establish effective relationships, communicate verbally and in writing.
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma or GED and considerable experience as a highway maintenance worker or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical RequirementsRegular exertion of up to 10 lbs of force, frequent up to 50 lbs, occasional up to 100 lbs; requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting; vision, hearing, and communication requirements; exposure to weather, vibration, fumes, chemicals, noise; use of PPE; exposure to high or precarious places.
Special Requirements- CPR/First Aid certification within six months of hire.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement in Minnesota.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Class A CDL.
Starting wage: $28.66 per hour. Salary range: $28.66–$36.46 per hour. Benefits include health insurance, life insurance, retirement plan, vacation, sick, holiday pay, and other voluntary benefits.
