Maintenance Engineer

Job Description Summary

The Maintenance Tech (MT) performs general maintenance work to ensure hotel physical plant quality and safety standards are achieved and maintained. The MT is responsible for the building, equipment, and grounds of the hotel, performing maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance across all areas of the property.

• Deliver Sonesta Service standards in all guest interactions.
• Identify and report hazardous situations, emergencies, or security threats to management.
• Complete work orders, including replacing ceiling tiles, filters, light bulbs, patching vinyl, painting, repairing plumbing, toilets, sinks, and kitchen and laundry equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance duties and monitor the efficiency of equipment and electrical systems such as HVAC, door controls, TV, and lighting.
• Refurbish furniture and fixtures (cabinets, tables, chairs, doors, windows, counters) and paint or finish them when required.
• Maintain the safety and cleanliness of exterior facilities, grounds, pool, and exercise/sport areas, including property signs, lighting, and snow removal.
• Secure inventory and assets (tools, supplies, equipment, furniture, televisions).
• Keep the front entrance area, parking lot, and street entrance clean and presentable.
• Ensure assigned equipment is prepared and operational for the following day’s work.
• Perform maintenance on interior and exterior of buildings, rooms, laundry, kitchen/refrigeration, lighting, HVAC, ventilation, water treatment systems, and swimming pool (if applicable).
• Conduct preventive maintenance as outlined in the PM Works program: inspect buildings, furniture, bathrooms, guest rooms, and all equipment; read and record meters; maintain inspection logs.
• Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments.
• Comply with federal, state, and local health and safety regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Advanced vocational training plus two years of experience in general building maintenance or construction (or equivalent education/experience).
• Preferred experience in the extended stay industry or apartment building maintenance.
• Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electricity, and equipment mechanics.
• Fluency in English reading and writing; other languages are beneficial.
• Basic mathematical skills, including budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
• Strong problem‑solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational, and training abilities.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Frequent standing, bending, climbing, kneeling, and moving around the facility.
• Frequent handling of objects and equipment, including using commercial chemicals.
• Ability to lift, carry, or pull items weighing up to 75 pounds.
• Willingness to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Pay rate: $35.10 per hour.
