This position is a candidate pool and not a specific position at a school or department. This position may require an initial screening interview before being placed into the Candidate Pool. There may not be an available position(s) at the time of application but positions can become available at any time. The candidate pool is used to refer qualified applicants to the site/department with the open position.

Shift Information
  • AM Shift typically starts as early as 5 AM – 1:30 PM or 5:30 AM – 2 PM.
  • Mid‑Day Shift can start as early as 11 AM – 7:30 PM.
  • PM Shift typically starts as early as 12 – 8:30 PM or at the latest 1:30 – 10 PM.
  • Be sure to ask if there is a shift differential for your position (PM shifts only).
Summary

Under general supervision, assists with cleaning and maintenance for inside and outside of MPS buildings.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain building interior by washing, dusting, and cleaning mirrors and fixtures; washing windows, counters, and walls; sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, and waxing floors; cleaning and supplying lavatories; replacing light bulbs.
  • Maintain building exterior by removing litter, mowing, maintaining shrubbery, edging and trimming lawns; removing snow and ice from walkways and steps.
  • Clean and maintain grounds, including seasonal lawn care and snow removal.
  • Control work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Assist in lifting and moving furniture, setting up portable staging, arranging classroom furnishings, and other materials.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed; clean up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
  • Follow manufacturer’s directions for use and dilution of all chemicals and cleaning products.
  • Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents, and injuries; report security issues and illegal activities.
  • Provide customer service as needed, respond to requests, and assist co‑workers, students, and visitors.
  • Attend seminars and training sessions as provided by management.
  • Open and close facilities and set security systems; respond to emergency situations including callbacks for break‑ins and mechanical problems; assist with safety drills and annual cleaning duties.
  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promote the Superintendent’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work‑related issues, records, and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as‑needed basis.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish the requirements of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or GED equivalent; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Medical Examination:
    Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Knowledge
  • Materials and equipment used in building and grounds maintenance.
  • Basic techniques and procedures used in the cleaning and maintenance of public buildings.
