Position Summary

The Building Maintenance Technician supports the day-to-day maintenance and operation of the Hope Academy campus, totaling approximately 500,000 square feet across multiple buildings and a parking ramp. This role is responsible for executing work orders, performing routine and preventative maintenance, and assisting the Building Engineer in maintaining safe, efficient, and fully operational building systems. The technician plays a key role in ensuring a high-quality, proactive maintenance environment across campus facilities.

$22-$24/hour depending on experience.

Responsibilities General Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair across all campus buildings, including HVAC, plumbing fixtures and piping, electrical fixtures, doors, hardware, and building finishes.
  • Complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner.
  • Assist with troubleshooting building system issues.
Preventative Maintenance Execution
  • Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance tasks as directed by the Property Engineer.
  • Inspect equipment and identify potential issues before failure occurs.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
  • Support efforts to transition from reactive to proactive maintenance.
Work Order Response
  • Respond to maintenance requests from staff, tenants and campus users.
  • Prioritize tasks based on urgency and operational impact.
  • Communicate status updates clearly and professionally.
  • Ensure a high level of service and responsiveness.
Facility Upkeep & Inspections
  • Perform regular inspections of mechanical rooms, common areas, exterior spaces and parking ramp.
  • Identify safety hazards, maintenance needs or operational concerns.

    Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
Support for Building Systems
  • Assist the Building Engineer with operation and monitoring of HVAC systems, building automation systems (BAS), and fire/life safety systems.
  • Help with filter changes, coil cleaning and basic system maintenance.
  • Escalate complex issues to the Building Engineer.
Vendor & Project Support
  • Assist with on-site vendor work and service visits.
  • Prepare areas for contractor access and project work.
  • Monitor and report on contractor performance as needed.
Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Support compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
  • Participate in emergency response situations as directed.
Grounds & Parking Ramp Support
  • Assist with snow and ice removal coordination.
  • Maintain parking ramp cleanliness and basic upkeep.
  • Check exterior lighting.
  • Report structural or safety concerns promptly.
Team Collaboration
  • Work collaboratively with the Building Engineer and other technicians.
  • Participate in team meetings and daily task coordination.
  • Support a positive, accountable, and service-oriented team culture.
Qualifications Required
  • 1-3 years of building maintenance or related experience.
Basic Knowledge Of
  • HVAC systems.
  • Plumbing and electrical maintenance.
  • Entry-level Boilers license working towards a Class 2 license.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to take direction and work effectively within a team.
Preferred
  • Experience in large commercial, institutional or campus environments.
  • Technical or trade school training.
  • Familiarity with work order or facility management systems.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Full-time, on-site role in Minneapolis, MN.
  • Frequent walking across campus buildings and parking ramp.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Climb ladders and stairs.
  • Work in mechanical rooms and confined spaces.
  • After-hours or weekend work for emergencies and monitoring systems.
