Unity Lab Services, a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific, provides a wide range of solutions, equipment, and services to our customers. The Field Service Engineer III is assigned with coordinating all field service support and customer relationship management components. The right candidate will deliver complete solutions for Chromatographic and Mass Spectrometric systems, including deployment, maintenance, proactive upkeep, and instrument verifications. We are searching for an applicant committed to clientele, endorsing Thermo Fisher Scientific in customer facilities, and dedicated to propelling advancement.
LocationMinneapolis, MN
TerritoryPrimarily covers Minnesota, ideally based in the Twin Cities area. Travel to North and South Dakota required.

- Perform on-site installations, repairs, maintenance, qualifications, and validations of Chromatography and Mass Spectrometric systems
- Proficiently use customer management software to complete service calls, handle parts inventories, and complete job tasks
- Evaluate examination and assessment results to identify the origin of the issue, and suggest fixing, substitution, or alternative remedial measures
- Coordinate problem resolution with engineering, customer service, and other personnel to expedite repairs
- Analyze Chemistry reports of technical problems to recommend modifications to eliminate future issues
- Provide a communication link between the customer and the company to ensure effective service
- Develop and conduct training on safe operations of the equipment and demonstrate skills to trainees
- Bachelors Degree in chemistry or related field required
- Preference for candidates with at least 3 years of practical experience as a Service Engineer, specifically with analytical instrumentation, or 3+ years of pertinent industry experience
- Proficiency with Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry instrumentation is preferred
- Strong communication and the ability to build positive customer relationships
- Ability to prioritize service requests and produce clear and concise documentation
- Must have a clean driving record
Physical Requirements
- Securely move 50 pounds with periodic support and 25-30 pounds continuously throughout the day
- Bend, squat, stretch, and reach daily in a service function
- Travel overnight, including possible air travel, for 50% of scheduled work
- Maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record
- Work independently within a customer location
- Extensive walking/standing for 75-85% of the day
- Operate in areas where chemicals are handled
- Operate material handling equipment like push carts and pallet jacks
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as lab coats, coveralls, hood, face shield, respirator, hairnets, steel-toed shoes, and/or safety gloves
The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Minnesota is $36.42–$42.00.
