Position Summary:

The custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary environment throughout Hope Academy's campus during the school day. This position helps ensure that classrooms, common areas, restrooms, cafeterias, gymnasiums, and other high-traffic spaces remain clean, orderly, and ready to support exceptional learning. The custodian serves as the primary responder for custodial needs during the school day, providing outstanding service to students, staff, and visitors while contributing to a safe, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment.

Essential

Responsibilities Cleaning and Sanitation
  • Maintain clean, orderly, and sanitary conditions throughout the school campus.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for urgent cleaning needs, including spills, accidents, and body fluids.
  • Follow proper safety procedures and protocols when handling body fluids, hazardous materials, and cleaning chemicals.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms throughout the day and restock paper products, soap, and other restroom supplies.
  • Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and organics daily.
  • Clean glass, drinking fountains, entryways, and other high-touch surfaces as needed.
  • Monitor the building throughout the day and proactively address custodial needs.
Facility Upkeep
  • Clean and reset cafeteria spaces daily to ensure readiness for student meals.
  • Maintain gymnasium spaces, including sweeping, floor care, and removal of marks and debris.
  • Ensure hallways, entrances, common areas, and other high-use spaces remain clean and presentable throughout the day.
  • Adjust cleaning priorities based on daily school operations, activities, athletics, and special events.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, and facility issues to the Facilities Director.
Event and Operational Support
  • Assist with setup and teardown of tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings, school events, performances, and other activities as needed.
  • Communicate supply needs and facility concerns to the Facilities Director.
  • Support the overall operations of the Facilities Department by helping maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming campus.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous custodial, janitorial, facilities, or building maintenance experience preferred.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Facilities team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize changing responsibilities throughout the day.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical demands of the position, including standing, walking, bending, climbing, pushing, and lifting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and use cleaning products according to established procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive, servant-hearted attitude when interacting with students, staff, parents, and visitors.

Compensation

$19.00–$21.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
