PRIMARYPURPOSE
The Facilities & Grounds Caretaker is responsible for maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of Eureka Recycling's buildings and grounds. This position ensures our facilities are welcoming, well-maintained, and operating smoothly through preventative maintenance, grounds care, custodial work, and basic building repairs.
This role focuses on facility and property maintenance, not vehicle, heavy equipment, or production machinery maintenance, and works closely with the Safety Committee and operations teams to identify and address facility needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Responsibilities Custodial Duties- Perform custodial tasks including cleaning of common areas, restrooms, break rooms, offices, and other shared spaces within the site’s facilities
- Perform sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing of floors, surfaces, and high-touch areas.
- Restock restroom and other break room related supplies
- Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and compost throughout the facility.
- Respond promptly to spills, leaks, accidents, and other unexpected cleaning situations to maintain a safe and professional workplace.
- Clean windows, glass doors, mirrors, and other interior glass surfaces as needed.
- Mow, trim, and maintain lawns and green spaces.
- Care for gardens, trees, and landscaped areas.
- Remove litter from parking lots, sidewalks, and outdoor spaces, especially after adverse weather events.
- Coordinate seasonal landscaping projects and improvements.
- Coordinate or perform snow removal and ice management for walkways and entrances.
- Prepare grounds for changing seasons.
- Perform routine inspections and facility walkthroughs to identify maintenance needs and develop and maintain preventive maintenance schedules.
- Respond to roof leaks, plumbing leaks, fluid spills, and other facility maintenance issues.
- Complete light carpentry, drywall, painting, patching, and cosmetic repairs.
- Repair doors, locks, windows, shelving, fixtures, furniture, and building hardware.
- Replace ceiling and carpet tiles, filters, light bulbs, and signage.
- Replace HVAC filters and perform other basic building maintenance tasks.
- Identify and correct facility hazards.
- Ensure walkways, exits, and work areas remain safe and accessible.
- Assist with facility emergency preparedness activities, including maintaining spill response supplies and emergency equipment.
- Support OSHA and workplace safety initiatives through membership on Eureka’s Safety Committee
- Coordinate with outside vendors for specialized repairs and services.
- Verify work completion, communicate facility issues to leadership, and obtain quotes for maintenance projects and facility improvements as requested.
- Assist in coordinating inspections and preventative maintenance performed by outside contractors.
- Maintain organized maintenance storage areas and inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and facility equipment.
- Order supplies as needed.
- Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for meetings and organizational events.
