Maintenance Manager

The Maintenance Manager leads the overall maintenance strategy for a manufacturing facility, encompassing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities. This role oversees a team of skilled maintenance technicians, ensuring equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and a strong culture of safety and continuous improvement. The Maintenance Manager collaborates closely with production, quality, and other departments to minimize downtime, support operational efficiency, and maintain the highest standards of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance programs to ensure the reliability and uptime of equipment and systems.
  • Plan, schedule, and oversee routine maintenance activities while minimizing disruption to production operations.
  • Coordinate maintenance schedules with production and quality teams to align with production demands and quality standards.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor maintenance technicians, fostering a collaborative, high-performance team environment.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for maintenance staff, providing constructive feedback and identifying development opportunities.
  • Ensure the maintenance team follows all safety regulations, standard operating procedures, and company policies, promoting a safety-first culture.
  • Oversee the installation, repair, and maintenance of machinery, equipment, and utility systems to maintain optimal performance and reliability.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, maintenance logs, and equipment histories.
  • Ensure the facility meets all applicable regulatory requirements, including GMP, OSHA, FDA, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols and procedures, conducting regular safety inspections and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with quality assurance to ensure maintenance activities support and do not compromise product quality or safety.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor the maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective use of labor, materials, and contracted services.
  • Maintain and optimize inventory levels of critical spare parts and maintenance supplies to prevent unplanned downtime.
  • Negotiate contracts with vendors and suppliers for equipment, parts, and services to secure favorable terms and value.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, cost savings, and best practices in maintenance and reliability.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in maintenance technology, integrating new tools and techniques where appropriate.
  • Lead or actively participate in cross-functional teams focused on continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
  • Use maintenance management software (CMMS) to plan, track, and analyze maintenance activities and performance.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Support electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, PLC, and welding-related maintenance tasks through oversight and guidance.
  • Ensure maintenance supervision and oversight are consistently applied across all shifts and work assignments.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a supervisory or managerial maintenance role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and regulatory requirements, including FDA and OSHA standards.
  • Proficiency in maintenance management software and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Demonstrated experience in preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Hands-on understanding of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting industrial equipment and systems, including PLC troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Experience overseeing maintenance technicians and providing effective maintenance supervision.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to mentor and develop staff.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a focus on root cause analysis.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, manage stress, and handle multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Strong sense of accountability and execution, with a willingness to take responsibility for outcomes.
  • High level of integrity and personal credibility, being perceived as reliable and trustworthy.
