Job SummaryBuildings & Grounds Workers maintain parks, trails, and public water access areas across the Northwest Region, performing tasks such as cleaning, mowing, equipment maintenance, and basic security patrols. This role supports the Department of Natural Resources mission to create unforgettable recreational experiences while promoting stewardship of natural resources.
Responsibilities- Perform park maintenance duties (cleaning, basic infrastructure upkeep, mowing, natural resource improvement) on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Provide low-key night security to protect visitors, property and resources in applicable locations.
- Maintain state trails and public water access points, including cleaning, litter pickup, minor repairs, and trail grooming.
- Additional responsibilities may include building and trail maintenance, grounds maintenance (weed control, tree removal, road repairs), and equipment inspection/repair.
- Ability to manage work tasks effectively and work independently with limited supervision while prioritizing customer service and safety.
- Teamwork skills to help colleagues complete tasks efficiently and safely.
- Communication skills to welcome a diverse user base to Minnesota State Parks and Trail Units.
- Problem-solving ability to identify, analyze, and address routine maintenance situations.
- Safe operation of equipment such as mowers, weed whips, hand tools, power tools, chainsaws, UTVs, and vehicles.
- Clear communication of policies and procedures to both internal and external customers.
- Training or experience in routine maintenance and repair of small engines, vehicles, and other equipment.
- Experience in building maintenance, cleaning, and repair.
- Experience in grounds or facility maintenance.
- Experience in security operations.
- First Aid and CPR training or certification.
- Unrestricted Class D driver's license with a clean driving record (minimum age 18).
- Ability to meet physical requirements and work in environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
