MAINTENANCE WORKER-STREETS

Salary Range: $17.44 To $22.77 Hourly

Job Function:

To maintain City’s streets and right-of-ways throughout the city.

  • Performs routine maintenance work such as keeping all entrances into the city neat, clean, and free of litter, trash and debris, as well as all city streets and right-of-ways.
  • Maintenance of streets and right-of-ways including; mowing, edging, string trimming, brush clearing, hedge trimming and blowing.
  • Loads and unloads various materials from truck.
  • Receives verbal and written instructions.
  • Performs related duties as required and other such work as may be assigned.
  • Work requires the operating of city-owned pick-up trucks and other related equipment.
  • General equipment maintenance.
  • Driving of City Vehicles (a valid Florida Driver’s License is required).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of tools and various equipment used in the street maintenance field.
  • Ability to follow and understand both oral and written instruction.
  • Must be able to work well with both co-worker and the public.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduation or GED required.
  • Must possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Some general maintenance experience.
  • A comparable amount of education and/or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
  • Complete the required National Incident Management System (NIMS) training within six (6) months of completion of probationary period

Essential Physical

Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without corrections) Visual acuity is required as a machine operator and/or mobile equipment operator.
  • Acceptable hearing (with or with hearing aid).
  • Physical ability for sitting, climbing, working form heights, standing, walking, pulling, digging, heavy lifting, using fingers, bending grasping, crawling and strenuous physical work.
  • Ability to physically lift 50 lbs. such as tree branches, appliances, bags of debris, etc.
  • Must be able to operate street maintenance hand tools and city-owned vehicles.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Works primarily in the outdoor environment and is subject to sun, heat, humidity, rain, cold, and inclement weather.
  • Works during daytime and nighttime hours.
