Job Description
Weyerhaeuser's McComb, MS lumber mill is seeking a Maintenance Team Leader to support the facility’s log yard, sawmill, dry kilns, planer, and shipping operations. This full‑time hourly position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Key Functions- Plan, develop, manage, and provide effective leadership for the maintenance team.
- Ensure safety of all associates by identifying safety issues, proactively addressing concerns, role‑modeling safe work practices, and leading safety meetings and initiatives.
- Conduct safety and training meetings and ensure quality pre‑shift safety meetings are held.
- Actively lead and develop the maintenance team to ensure effective communication across and between shifts and with the production teams.
- Manage and utilize preventive maintenance systems to reduce unscheduled downtime.
- Use reliable troubleshooting methods to ensure uptime, production volume, and quality goals are met.
- Leverage training resources to maximize team technical skills.
- Use computer‑based programs to prioritize maintenance requests, manage maintenance inventory, and delegate maintenance resources.
- Perform maintenance repairs and direct others performing maintenance work.
- Fill in as maintenance supervisor when required.
- Perform visual inspections and coordinate repairs.
- Coordinate maintenance repairs, input computer work requests, and communicate with the planning department and other maintenance team coordinators and operating teams.
- Ensure both quality and quantity of maintenance work meet expectations.
- Maintain proper documentation of all maintenance activities.
- Handle applicable permitting (hot work, red tag, cross connection).
- Understand factors that impact machine reliability and quality, and implement improvements.
- Improve personnel utilization for preventive maintenance (PM) and prioritize tasks to ensure the right job is done at the right time.
- Provide leadership and gain the team’s commitment.
- Identify preventive and predictive maintenance work that needs to be documented.
- Analyze PM frequencies to maximize efficiency.
- Evaluate downtime and uptime for PM efficiency.
- Analyze equipment failures to prevent reoccurrence by working with craft and operating associates.
- Assure compliance on PM jobs.
- Increase the competency of the team by sharing knowledge, identifying training needs, and tracking individual progression.
- Lead team meetings and trainings; identify safety, environmental, quality, and production issues; coordinate activities with production teams to maximize productivity and minimize cost, reduce waste, and proactively address concerns.
- Proactively resolve employee issues, build teamwork, and ensure adherence to all applicable site policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
- Track record of consistently demonstrating leadership skills and positive influence in safety, environmental, quality, productivity, and people development.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good troubleshooting and failure analysis skills.
- Proven experience in preventive and predictive maintenance methods.
- Ability to identify root causes and initiate immediate corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal, and electronic communication skills.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with all associates through coaching, development, and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Strong work ethic, good judgment, and decision‑making skills.
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn computerized maintenance management systems.
- Experience utilizing CMMS such as MAXIMO or SAP, including work orders, preventive maintenance, equipment records, purchasing, parts and materials specifications, and spares.
- Understanding of reliability‑centered maintenance practices.
- Willingness to accept after‑hour calls and work nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures, dusty and noisy conditions while wearing safety equipment.
- Ability to lift 2–20 pounds regularly, lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, climb steps and ladders, work from heights, and stand or walk for 2–3 hours at a time for 10 hours.
- Working knowledge of business and financial concepts.
