Description
St. Charles Borromeo Parish and Academy is seeking a full-time maintenance and custodial worker (40 hours a week) with experience and knowledge of equipment, materials, and tools used in building maintenance and repairs. St. Charles Borromeo Parish is open seven days a week; therefore attendance reliability is imperative. Occasional schedule flexibility is needed from the normal Monday through Friday shift for holidays or weekend events.
This position will report to the Pastor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide excellent customer service through positive interactions with staff, students, parishioners, and guests. A positive demeanor and composure is required.
- Help open the church and school for the beginning of the school days. During inclement weather, clear and create safe entrances and exits for students, staff, parents, parishioners, guest, etc.
- Help set up or take down furniture (tables and/or chairs) for parish and school events. This includes daily lunch service for the school.
- Take care of any maintenance issues that arise on campus along with maintain appearance and cleanliness of buildings and surrounding grounds.
- Operate power equipment such as automatic floor scrubbers, power washers, and hand and power tools.
- Perform building maintenance and repairs such as painting, floor refinishing, plumbing, carpentry, mechanical, etc.
- Communicate information clearly to other staff members and general public.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical demands described in the Essential Duties & Responsibilities are representative of those tasks that must be met to successfully perform the functions of this job. Employee is required to lift, walk, sit and stand for prolonged periods of time; carry, push, and/or pull; walk, frequent stooping kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders. Employee must be able to lift and carry 75 lbs.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions - rain, snow, sleet, and heat.
Skills and Abilities
- Working knowledge of equipment, materials, supplies and tools used in building maintenance and repairs.
- Some knowledge of first aid and safety precautions.
- Ability to work productively and cooperatively with co-workers, supervisors and the general public.
- Ability to work independently and to complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to work professionally, safely, and follow all safety rules and procedures. Have awareness of student, parishioner, staff and guest safety at all times.
- Willingness to take initiative and ability to accept training and constructive criticism, be dependable, maintain a positive attitude and represent the parish in a professional and courteous manner.
- Willingness to communicate effectively to verbal and written instructions.
