Job Summary
Performs various tasks in a landfill including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic at the landfill.
Responsibilities- Manually pick up windblown paper from the periphery of the landfill, carrying a large plastic trash bag and walking along the fenced border, as well as on exterior land adjacent to public property. Pull paper from the fence and lift loose paper from the ground, depositing refuse in the bag until full.
- Use a mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse. Operate a tractor pulling the vacuum along the fenced border and exterior area adjacent to public property. When the destination is reached, park and descend the tractor, grasp the vacuum hose handle, and guide it to vacuum loose paper from the fence and ground. Continue this process as necessary, working around the outer edge of the landfill.
- During very busy summer months, station at the landfill entrance in a chair to direct traffic. Direct the flow of trucks, communicating with drivers verbally or by hand signals.
- Lift construction materials for site maintenance projects (e.g., lumber, bags of concrete mix, hand tools). Use hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, and chainsaws.
- Manually separate metal, white goods, lumber, and cardboard from trash on tipping floor at landfills with transfer stations.
- Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.
