Job Summary

The Custodian / Maintenance Assistant is responsible for the custodial care, cleanliness, and general upkeep of parish buildings and grounds. This position helps ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for parishioners, staff, visitors, and community members through routine cleaning, maintenance, and groundskeeping activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of parish facilities, including offices, meeting spaces, classrooms, and common areas.
  • Clean, sanitize, and restock restrooms to ensure a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Perform routine custodial tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and wall and window cleaning.
  • Wax and maintain floors as needed to preserve facility appearance and safety.
  • Conduct basic building maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, air filters, and other minor repairs within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with grounds maintenance by raking leaves, removing debris, and maintaining outdoor areas.
  • Monitor facilities and grounds for maintenance needs, safety concerns, and cleanliness issues, reporting items requiring repair or attention.
  • Support parish events and activities by assisting with facility setup, cleanup, and general preparation as needed.
  • Follow established safety procedures and maintain proper use of cleaning equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
  • Previous custodial, maintenance, or facilities experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, bending, standing, walking, and working indoors and outdoors.
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning methods, equipment, and safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
  • Dependable, organized, and committed to providing excellent service in support of the parish mission.
