Qualifications

Under the direct supervision of the Groundskeeper and general supervision of the site and district administration, the Utility Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi‑skilled maintenance, painting, groundskeeping, custodial support, and repair duties in support of district facilities and operations. The position assists in maintaining district buildings, grounds, equipment, and facilities in a clean, safe, attractive, and functional condition.

This position places a heavy emphasis on painting preparation and painting, facility upkeep, preventive maintenance, grounds support, and independent project completion. The employee is expected to work independently, demonstrate initiative and reliability, and maintain high standards of workmanship and productivity.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform interior and exterior painting of district buildings and facilities.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting, including scraping, sanding, patching, pressure washing, masking, caulking, priming, and cleanup.
  • Operate and maintain painting tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, and related materials safely and effectively.
  • Perform general maintenance and repair work, including minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and facility repairs.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and upkeep of district facilities and equipment.
  • Perform groundskeeping duties including mowing, edging, trimming, weed control, raking, irrigation support, and outdoor cleanup.
  • Operate grounds and maintenance equipment, including lawnmowers, weed eaters, blowers, hand tools, power tools, and district maintenance equipment.
  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of district events, activities, and facilities as assigned.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and work orders promptly and professionally.
  • Assist in maintaining safe, clean, and attractive school campuses and district properties.
  • Perform custodial support duties as needed during inclement weather, emergencies, staffing shortages, or special events.
  • Monitor and report safety hazards, equipment concerns, vandalism, or facility issues.
  • Maintain tools, supplies, equipment, and work areas in an organized and safe condition.
  • Work independently on assigned projects with minimal supervision.
  • Assist other maintenance, grounds, and custodial staff as needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Knowledge of proper methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in painting and surface preparation.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of safe operation of grounds and maintenance equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repair practices.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and proper use of protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of groundskeeping and landscaping methods.
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment.
  • Ability to perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work independently.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong painting and preparation skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to safely operate tools, equipment, ladders, and machinery.
  • Ability to prioritize work and complete projects efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to:
