Position

Title: Custodian

Location: Jefferson College Hillsboro campus

Grade/Salary

Wage: $16.84 effective July 1

Responsibilities
  • Perform general cleaning tasks such as vacuuming, mopping, waxing, scrubbing, and dusting floors and windows.
  • Clean bathrooms, classrooms, hallways, offices, lobbies, entry ways, elevators and other facility areas.
  • Dispose of all facility garbage and recycling by transporting materials to proper disposal areas.
  • Move, arrange, set‑up, and tear down furniture and other event materials when required.
  • Stock and organize supplies and equipment to maintain inventory cleanliness and standards.
  • May provide guidance to lower level facilities positions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Perform all aspects of floor care and maintenance – utilizing machines, floor strippers and polisher.
  • Provide support to event setup as needed.
  • Perform basic maintenance work and support maintenance technicians during snow removal.
  • Serve as a lead worker to assign work and provide work direction for temporary employees or student workers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D) and six months of related experience.

  • Supervisory principles.
  • Basic facility cleaning techniques.
  • Chemicals and chemical mixtures.
  • Applicable tools and equipment.
  • Basic inventory maintenance principles.

  • Safe work procedures.
  • Prioritizing and assigning work.
  • Cleaning and sanitizing offices, restrooms, hallways, and other facilities.
  • Proper handling of chemicals.
  • Using and caring for applicable tools and equipment.
  • Using custodial equipment such as vacuums and buffers.
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, and others sufficient to exchange or convey information.
Physical Effort

Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Employees of Jefferson College must reside in Missouri or Illinois.
