Position:Groundskeeper / Facilities Maintenance
Reports To: Director of Facilities
Status: Non‑Exempt
Purpose of the PositionProvide grounds‑keeping services in a manner that is reflective of the College’s mission. Responsible for day‑to‑day safety, beauty, and functionality of the College’s outdoor environments and athletic facilities. Provide additional services such as new removal, athletic field maintenance, trash/debris removal, general maintenance, supply deliveries, furniture moving, special event setups, etc., as needed.
Job Functions- Responsible for all general grounds‑keeping activities on campus, including mowing, trimming, weeding, edging, mulching, blowing, pressure washing, landscaping, tree trimming, bush/shrub pruning and planting, gardening, raking and removing leaves, limbs, sticks, and other lawn debris. Prioritize areas of highest importance and work to maintain high visibility and traffic areas first.
- Assist with maintenance of campus hard surfaces (parking lots, sidewalks, roadways) including concrete and asphalt repair, curb cleaning, maintaining drainage areas, and moving or applying rock, sand, dirt, etc.
- Assist with athletic field maintenance, including field painting/marking, maintenance of “turf” fields, grooming dirt fields, mending of netting, irrigation, and placement of goals and other athletic equipment.
- Use equipment and machines in a safe and efficient manner, ensuring the safety of others in the vicinity. Proficient use of grounds equipment including riding mowers, push mowers, weed whackers, blowers, pressure washers, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, golf carts or side‑by‑side, etc.
- Maintain all equipment and machines in consistent working order (perform preventative maintenance, winterize equipment, oil changes, blade sharpening, etc.).
- Assist the Director with College grounds master planning, budgeting, and equipment recommendations.
- Direct the work of seasonal grounds employees and students working community service hours.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.
- Knowledge of basic computer operations including email, and basic software applications.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all the job functions listed above.
- Ability to work well both individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to complete projects and tasks without constant supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- 3 years of relevant work experience preferred.
- Must have a current valid driver’s license.
- Lawn spraying application license or certification preferred but not required.
- Mobility sufficient to move about, stand, and/or sit for extended periods of time, and access all locations of the campus.
- Must be able to control and manipulate objects, tools, materials, and equipment used on the job.
- Flexibility and strength to reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop.
- Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels and on the phone.
- Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations and on the phone.
- Ability to see and read a computer screen, equipment used in the work environment, instructional materials, training materials, directions, rules, policies, calendars, agendas, manuals, and other printed materials.
- Physical strength and ability to push, pull, squat, twist, turn, and lift and carry bulky objects up to 50 pounds without assistance.
- Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in a safe, accurate, and timely fashion.
