Midas Hospitality is seeking an experienced and hands‑on Chief Engineer to lead our Engineering department and ensure the safety, functionality, and appearance of our hotel property. This leadership role is responsible for managing preventative maintenance programs, overseeing building systems, developing engineering associates, controlling departmental expenses, and protecting the overall hotel assets.
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem‑solver who combines strong technical knowledge with leadership skills and takes pride in maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for guests and associates.
What You Will Be Doing:As a Chief Engineer, you will oversee all aspects of hotel engineering operations while leading a team dedicated to maintaining the property to the highest standards.
Responsibilities include:- Lead, train, coach, and develop Engineering associates while promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
- Manage the daily operations of the Engineering department, including work assignments, preventative maintenance schedules, and departmental priorities.
- Develop and execute short‑term and long‑term maintenance plans to protect the hotel assets.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs for guest rooms, public spaces, mechanical equipment, and hotel infrastructure, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, drywall, and life safety systems.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain hotel equipment, systems, and facilities while ensuring compliance with brand and company standards.
- Ensure timely response to guest, associate, and management maintenance requests to maximize guest satisfaction and room availability. The original standard includes responding within 15 minutes whenever possible.
- Monitor and maintain life safety systems, including fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, smoke detectors, alarms, and other required safety equipment.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA standards, local building codes, hotel brand requirements, and company safety procedures.
- Manage pool maintenance and chemical testing in accordance with company, brand, and applicable jurisdictional standards when applicable.
- Maintain clean, organized engineering shops, storage areas, and hotel grounds.
- Develop department budgets, recommend capital expenditure projects, and manage expenses within approved budget guidelines.
- Manage vendor relationships, coordinate outside contractors, and oversee specialized repair projects.
- Respond to emergency situations, investigate alarms, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment documentation, inspections, and preventative maintenance logs.
- Support additional projects and assist other departments as needed to ensure overall hotel success.
- Previous experience in hotel engineering, facilities maintenance, building operations, or a related skilled trade required.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience managing maintenance teams strongly preferred.
- Technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems, carpentry, and general building maintenance.
- Experience managing preventative maintenance programs, departmental budgets, and capital improvement projects.
- Ability to diagnose complex maintenance issues and develop effective solutions.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects and respond effectively to changing operational needs.
