Under the general direction of the Chief Engineer I, the incumbent performs skilled work operating, maintaining, and repairing boilers, HVAC equipment, utility systems, and other mechanical systems. The position leads and supervises incarcerated work crews, apprentices, and maintenance staff; plans and schedules maintenance projects; reads blueprints and schematics; obtains materials and vendor quotes; and maintains work records. The incumbent may also assist with asbestos-related work after completing the required training and certification.

Additional responsibilities include complying with departmental policies, completing administrative requirements, attending required training and meetings, and performing other related duties.
